Admissions Criteria
Our students may be working through:
Uinta Academy serves adolescents and young adults assigned female at birth, ages 12–25, who are struggling internally rather than acting out externally.
Our students often experience struggles that affect their entire family system:
Attachment disruptions
Trauma histories
Anxiety and mood disorders
Depression
Relationship and social struggles
Executive functioning challenges
Neurodivergence (including high-functioning Autism Spectrum Level 1 & 2 presentations)
Many come from other treatment programs, hospitals, or home environments where parents are ready for deeper, relational healing.

Insurance
Insurance funding may be available depending on your family's policy/provider and your child's medical necessity. As a licensed private-pay facility we work with Bridgeway Billing, a third-party advocate, to help families navigate available insurance.
Bridgeway Billing helps families interface with their insurance company by:
- Checking benefits
- Seeking authorization
- Billing applicable treatment costs

Families complete a formal application and provide supporting records, which may include:
Clinical and psychiatric history
Recent evaluations or assessments
Academic transcripts
Medication information
Our clinical and academic teams carefully review each application to ensure:
Your child meets our clinical criteria
We can safely and effectively support her needs
The program environment is appropriate
If approved, we coordinate enrollment details, admission timing, and arrival logistics.

What makes Uinta Academy Different?
The Most Comprehensive Equine Program in Residential Treatment
Upon admission, each student is therapeutically paired with their own horse. Through their time at Uinta, they work with this horse to learn the 3 R’s: Responsibility, Relationships, and Reciprocity
Equine programming includes:
Horse ownership
Parelli Natural Horsemanship
Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP)
Equine EMDR
Traditional riding instruction
Equine therapy is not just for people who love horses. Working with horses lowers defenses. It reveals relational patterns. It restores regulation through patterned, rhythmic movement. Our equine work is intentionally chosen to support our students' clinical needs.
Clinically Sophisticated, Fully Licensed, Trauma-Focused Therapy
Residential programs should offer high-quality therapy.
What makes ours different is how deeply it integrates with daily experiential attachment work.
All therapists are trained in EMDR and/or Brainspotting.
Students receive:
Two individual therapy sessions per week
One weekly family therapy session
4–6 group therapy sessions weekly
Monthly psychiatric oversight
We do not use a traditional level system or point cards. Progress is measured through the stages of change model and individualized treatment planning.
Accredited Academics Designed for Students in Therapy
Academically, Uinta meets and sustains rigorous standards. Uinta is Cognia accredited, SEVIS certified, and staffed by licensed teachers.
Students rebuild academic identity alongside emotional regulation. Not all therapeutic schools are built this intentionally around both.
