Uinta Academy is a residential treatment center for adolescents and young adults assigned female at birth, ages 12–25. We specialize in supporting students struggling with attachment wounds, trauma, anxiety, depression, and relational challenges.
Our treatment model is relationship-centered and trauma-informed. Each student receives individualized care within a structured residential environment designed to support emotional growth, family repair, and long-term stability.
This page covers our treatment philosophy, how we individualize treatment, our family services, and clinical modalities.
Our Treatment Philosophy
At Uinta, we approach treatment by taking into account that each person is a unique individual with a distinct set of skills, strengths, and characteristics. We can help them recognize and utilize these to overcome their personal challenges. This strength-based approach empowers young people to take control of their own treatment through using their strengths to overcome challenges.
If a person feels capable of managing their own life, they will have the strength and confidence to make positive changes and abandon victimhood. Developing a person's internal locus of control, fostering self responsibility and accountability, and restoring empowerment are key elements to Uinta's relationship-based treatment approach.
Individualized Treatment
Every student at Uinta receives a treatment plan tailored to her needs as a whole person, not just her needs in light of the difficulties they are experiencing.
Treatment begins with a comprehensive assessment of emotional functioning, attachment patterns, trauma history, academic standing, and family dynamics. From there, a living treatment plan is developed with clear goals and measurable objectives. The treatment plan assesses and brings together the cognitive, emotional, psychological, and social aspects of their life.
As students progress, treatment evolves. Plans are reviewed regularly and adjusted based on clinical insight, family input, and demonstrated growth.
Individualization at Uinta means:
Treatment goals specific to each student
Modality selection based on clinical need
Ongoing collaboration between clinical, residential, and academic teams
Flexibility as progress occurs
Our focus is not only symptom reduction, but long-term relational and emotional development. By using relationally-focused, research-validated approaches that support each individual's current mental health, we ensure that each person is provided with the type and level of treatment that is best suited to meet their unique needs.
Integrated Family Therapy
We believe sustainable change involves the family system, not just the individual student. That's why family therapy is an essential part of treatment at Uinta.
Students and families participate in one structured family therapy session per week with their primary therapist. These sessions focus on:
Strengthening communication
Addressing attachment patterns
Rebuilding trust
Preparing for reintegration home
Sessions are conducted virtually to ensure consistent participation, regardless of location. In-person sessions may occur during on-campus visits when clinically appropriate.
Parent Involvement & Support
Parent involvement is integrated intentionally throughout each stage of treatment.
In addition to weekly family therapy, families participate in:
Three social calls per week, plus regular emails and letters
Monthly campus visits (as clinically appropriate)
Gradual home visits as progress is demonstrated
Parent workshops
Ongoing parent support groups
Support groups provide education, clinical insight, and connection with other families navigating similar experiences.
