Recreation & Exploration
The girls work incredibly hard in therapy and school, so it’s very important that they have time just to be teenagers. We give them plenty of time to relax and have fun. The girls are involved in suggesting and choosing a “family outing” each week. These outings may be going to a movie, attending a sporting event, bowling, swimming, hiking, picnicking, or going to a local rodeo or fair. Every month the girls attend cultural arts events in the community such as plays, dance performances, musical performances, and art walks. The girls regularly go to the public library. All the Uinta homes frequently get together for games, barbeques, and parties. We provide a large variety of recreational activities so that every girl gets to do something that she enjoys.
Every month, the girls participate in an Exploration field trip. Exploration activities give girls a chance to see new things, try new things, and explore their world. Because of anxiety, depression, negative self-beliefs, poor self-image, or poor distress tolerance, many girls have avoided engaging in life prior to coming to Uinta. Explorations activities give girls a chance to learn and try something new without competition or rejection from others. These activities include skiing/snowboarding, cave exploration, white - water rafting, and trips to Yellowstone National Park, Arches National Park, and Teton National Park. Girls develop enthusiasm for living life and confidence for trying new things.Read On
