Lumosity

Neuroplasticity is the concept that the brain has the ability to physically change at any age. As a person acquires a new skill, such as learning to play the piano or learning a language, the brain creates new connections between neurons, altering the neural pathways and increasing its ability to manipulate the new information. In short, a person’s brain has the ability to change and cope with new information and abilities.

Cognitive and neuropsychological tasks can be used to improve a person’s brain function and can aid in improving the following conditions: poor executive functioning, obsessive-compulsive thinking, depression, anxiety, working memory, addiction, post-traumatic stress disorder, impulse control, dyslexia, and other disorders. Since “brain training” can help students with their cognitive growth, all of our students participate in the Lumosity training program. Lumosity is currently being used in over 3,000 classrooms nationwide. Pre and post testing with students showed an increase in their standardized test scores after only thirty hours of participation in the program.

Our girls spend 20 minutes each school day working in Lumosity. Each girl can track her improvement in five areas: memory, attention, speed, flexibility, and problem solving. Since the cognitive tasks are presented in the form of challenging games, the girls have fun while they are improving their “brain skills.”
